Definition of Aces
The hooks that are used to secure the chains of an anchor to the ship’s hull. For instance, in the following paragraph, the term aces is used to describe the hooks that are employed to attach the chain of an anchor to a ship:
The captain gave the order to drop the anchor. The crew swiftly secured the chains to the anchor and then employed the aces to hook the chains to the ship’s hull. Once the anchor was firmly in place, the ship came to a halt in the turbulent waters.
