Definition of After peak

The ‘after peak’ compartment is a space located just forward of the stern post on a ship. This compartment is typically situated almost entirely below the load water line. For instance, during the loading process, if the water level in the after peak compartment rises above the load water line, then the ship is considered overloaded in that area.
