Definition of APHIS
The Animal & Plant Health Inspection Service, also known as APHIS, is a division of the United States Department of Agriculture. APHIS is responsible for implementing and enforcing measures to protect animal and plant health within the US. For instance, APHIS may conduct inspections of imported plant shipments at ports of entry to prevent the introduction and spread of invasive plant species.
