Definition of Arbor

An arbor refers to the principal axis member or spindle of a machine or mechanical system. It is the component that transmits a motion of revolution.

For instance, During the sailing voyage, the ship’s steering gear consisted of an arbor connecting the rudder stock to the twin wheels on the quarterdeck.
