Nautical Term: Bearing

Definition of Bearing

The bearing of an object refers to its direction relative to an observer, typically the person on a ship or another navigator. For example, if a ship’s navigation system shows that the lighthouse has a bearing of 135 degrees, it means that the lighthouse is located to the northwest of the ship.
