Nautical Term: BLG

Definition of BLG

Bulk Liquids and Gases refers to large quantities of liquids, such as water, fuel oil, or chemicals, or gases, such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), or compressed gases, which are transported, stored, and handled in bulk quantities.

For example, a cargo vessel carrying a large consignment of bulk LNG from Qatar to Europe, would unload the gas at a receiving terminal using a specialized tanker truck fitted with insulated tanks, a refrigeration unit, and a vapor recovery system. Once transferred to the terminal’s storage tanks, the LNG would be kept in a liquid state at a very low temperature, usually around -162 degrees Celsius, or -260 degrees Fahrenheit, before being regasified, pressurized, and transported via pipeline to various industrial and commercial users for heating, cooling, and power generation purposes.
