Definition of Breast beam

A breast beam is a transverse beam located nearest to the midship point on both the poop and forecastle decks of a ship.

For instance, During the repair of the old merchant vessel, the carpenter measured the distance between the adjacent breast beams on the poop deck to ensure proper placement of the new planking.
