Definition of Centreline

The centreline of a vessel refers to the longitudinal axis or line of symmetry running through the middle of the vessel from bow to stern. For example, in the following paragraph, the centreline of a ship is mentioned:

‘The captain of the freight ship, Oriana, announced over the ship’s intercom that the ship had crossed its centreline and was now on a westerly course towards its destination in the Caribbean Sea.’
