Nautical Term: Chamfer

Definition of Chamfer

A chamfer is defined as the beveled surface formed by cutting away a portion of the angle between two faces of a solid object, such as a piece of wood or metal.

For instance, when constructing a wooden boat, the shipbuilder might decide to chamfer the edges of the wooden planks to improve their fit and reduce the risk of water leaking through the seams.
