Nautical Term: Corrugated bulkhead
Definition of Corrugated bulkhead
A corrugated bulkhead is a partition constructed from plates of corrugated metal or by flat plates alternately attached to the opposite flanges of the bulkhead stiffeners.
For instance, in a ship’s cargo hold, flat plate bulkheads are commonly alternately attached to the opposite flanges of the stiffeners to create a series of corrugated cargo hold bulkheads. These bulkheads help to compartmentalize the cargo hold and prevent the spread of fire or water damage in the event of an accident.
