Definition of CSSC

The Code of Safe Practice for Stowage and Securing Cargo, commonly referred to as the ‘CSSC,’ is a set of guidelines developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The CSSC provides detailed instructions for stowing and securing cargo in a manner that minimizes the risk of cargo shifting during transportation. For instance, a cargo ship carrying cars may secure them using lashing chains and securing the cars with wedges to prevent them from moving during the voyage.
