Nautical Term: D&A
Definition of D&A
Drug and Alcohol refers to the consumption of illicit drugs or excessive amounts of alcohol. This term is commonly used in maritime contexts, particularly in the context of commercial shipping, where crew members are required to be free from the influence of drugs and alcohol while on duty.
For example, in a log entry for a cargo ship, the master might write, On the 15th day of this voyage, we encountered a suspected case of drug use among the crew. The crew member in question was immediately removed from duty and the matter was reported to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
