Nautical Term: Doldrums

Definition of Doldrums

[], located on either side of the Equator, is a region notorious for experiencing scant wind conditions. Normally, little to no wind is observed in this belt.

Example:
The sailors, who had set sail from the Port of Maracaibo, found themselves stuck in the infamous doldrums. For days, their sails remained lifeless, and the sea around them was as still as a mirror. It was only when they reached the edge of the doldrums that the wind finally filled their sails once more.
