Nautical Term: Ductility

Definition of Ductility

Ductility is a material property that enables a metal to be deformed without breaking. This property allows metals to be drawn out into threads or wires. For instance, during the manufacturing process of producing a copper wire, the copper is first melted and then repeatedly drawn through dies to reduce its cross-sectional area and obtain the desired wire diameter.
