The Executive Committee (EXCOM) refers to a select committee of officers and crew members on board a ship, responsible for making key decisions and executing strategic plans on behalf of the ship’s captain and owner.
For instance, during a lengthy and complex salvage operation, the EXCOM, consisting of the ship’s master, chief engineer, chief mate, second engineer, and bosun, would convene frequently to assess the latest operational data, evaluate the salvage team’s progress, and make timely decisions to optimize the salvage operation’s efficiency and effectiveness.
