Nautical Term: FOFFER

Definition of FOFFER

A Firm Offer (FOFFER) refers to an unequivocal offer made by a shipping party, such as a carrier or a freight forwarder, to another party, stating the precise terms and conditions of the offer.

For instance, a FOFFER from a shipping line to a consignee might look like this: We, [Shipping Line], hereby offer to transport your goods described in Bill of Lading No. [XXX] from [Origin] to [Destination] on board our vessel [Vessel Name] departing [Departure Port] on [Departure Date] and arriving at [Arrival Port] on [Arrival Date].

In this example, the shipping line is extending a firm offer to the consignee, clearly stating the exact shipping arrangements and the corresponding timelines. Once the consignee accepts the offer by signing the Bill of Lading, the shipping line is contractually bound to fulfill the terms of the offer.
