Nautical Term: Forehook

Definition of Forehook

A forehook, also referred to as a breast hook, is a type of hook used on a sailboat to secure a line or a fender to the foremast or the foredeck.

For instance, during a rough sailing condition, a sailor might attach a fender to the foremast using a forehook to protect the mast from getting damaged by the frequent impact of the waves against the boat.
