Definition of Freighter
A freighter is a large ocean-going merchant vessel specifically designed to transport various types of general cargo, also known as ‘dry cargo.’ This can include items such as grain, sugar, textiles, and machinery.
For example, The MV Anchorage Brave, a Panamanian freighter, arrived at the Port of Vancouver earlier this week. The vessel, which is 226 meters long and 45 meters wide, is capable of carrying up to 110,000 metric tons of various types of general cargo, such as grain, coal, and machinery components.
