Nautical Term: FYG

Definition of FYG

For Your Guidance (FYG) is a nautical term used to convey suggested navigational procedures or routes. The decision to follow these recommendations is left to the discretion of the mariner.

For instance, when sailing through a narrow channel, the shipping traffic control may issue a FYG instruction advising vessels to reduce their speed and maintain a minimum safe distance from other boats. Whether or not to comply with the FYG instructions is ultimately up to the master of the vessel.
