Definition of GHG
Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) refer to a group of gases that trap heat in the Earth’s atmosphere. The primary GHGs are carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), and fluorinated gases (F-gases). These gases are released through human activities such as burning fossil fuels for electricity, heat, and transportation; deforestation; agriculture; and industrial processes. The release of these GHGs contributes to the greenhouse effect, which is causing the Earth’s climate to warm up at an unprecedented rate.
