Nautical Term: ISCC
Definition of ISCC
The International Ship Security Certificate (ISSC) is a document issued to ships to verify that they have implemented measures to prevent acts of armed piracy and terrorism against the ship, its crew, or passengers.
For instance, a container ship with a crew of thirty and a manifest of fifteen hundred tons of cargo intending to transit the Gulf of Aden, an area known for piracy, would need to obtain an ISSC. The ship’s master would present the ISSC to the port state control officer during the ship’s arrival inspection.
