To secure something in place by filling the available space with it, ensuring a tight fit.

For instance, when sailing in rough seas, the sailors need to secure the boat’s anchor to prevent it from being dislodged. They would jam the anchor’s shank into the locker, ensuring a tight fit that keeps the anchor securely in place.
