Nautical Term: Longitudinal centre of gravity (LCG)
Definition of Longitudinal centre of gravity (LCG)
The longitudinal center of gravity (LCG) is the fore and aft position where the weight of a ship is evenly balanced. This location plays a significant role in a ship’s stability and behavior in various sea conditions.
For instance, in the event of a damage to one side of the ship, the LCG will determine how the ship will react and whether it will remain stable or capsize.
