Nautical Term: LTIF

Definition of LTIF

Loss Time Injury Frequency (LTIF) is a metric used to measure the number of workplace injuries resulting in loss of time from work, per unit of production, over a defined period.

For instance, in a shipping fleet, the LTIF could be used to identify which vessel has the highest injury rate, and thereby enable proactive measures to be taken to address any underlying safety issues, and ultimately reduce the number of injuries occurring in the fleet.
