One of the coefficients of fineness in nautical engineering, the Midship Area Coefficient (Cm) represents the ratio of the underwater area of the midship section to that of the circumscribing rectangle. For instance, a ship designer could use the Cm to determine the optimum hull form for minimum drag and maximum efficiency.
