Definition of NPRM

A formal document issued by the United States Coast Guard, announcing proposed changes to existing regulations. For example, if the Coast Guard proposes new safety requirements for a specific type of vessel, a Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM) would be issued, allowing stakeholders to comment on the proposed changes before they are finalized.
