Nautical Term: Port
Definition of Port
(1) The term port refers to the left-hand side of a vessel when facing the bow. (2) In the marine context, port is also used to describe small windows on a vessel.
For example, in a paragraph describing the features of a sailboat, you might say:
The sailboat boasts large, spacious cabins below deck, as well as numerous port lights that allow natural light to flow in. These port lights, or small windows, are strategically placed throughout the boat to provide both ventilation and visual appeal.
