Definition of PTD

Permanent Total Disability (PTD), refers to a sailor’s or mariner’s status when they are unable to perform any duties related to their profession due to a permanent and total disability.

For example, if a seaman suffers a severe head injury that leaves him unable to perform any duties related to being a seaman, he would be considered to have a Permanent Total Disability.
