Nautical Term: Pump dale

Definition of Pump dale

A specific pipe, known as a ‘pump dale,” is employed to transfer water from the pump discharge to the exterior of the ship.

For instance, During a heavy rainstorm, the ship’s bilge pumps were working diligently to keep the ship’s lower compartments dry. Once the water had been pumped from the ship’s interior, it was then conveyed through a ‘pump dale’ pipe, which discharged the water through the ship’s side, safely into the sea.
