Nautical Term: Pusher tug

Definition of Pusher tug

A pusher tug is a specialized type of tugboat designed for or engaged in the task of pushing barges from behind. The tug’s powerful engines and push knees enable it to efficiently maneuver the barge and push it through the water.

For instance, consider a barge loaded with gravel, which needs to be transported from one location to another. A pusher tug, equipped with powerful engines and push knees, is attached to the rear of the barge. The tug then maneuvers the barge through the water, pushing it forward with incredible efficiency.
