Nautical Term: Ramp

Definition of Ramp

A hinged, moveable platform found on Ro-Ro (Roll-on/Roll-off) vessels. This ramp enables the loading and unloading of vehicles or other cargo, as well as the transition between decks for vehicles aboard these vessels.

For example, during a Ro-Ro ferry voyage, the ramp is used to enable cars, trucks, buses, and other cargo to be rolled on and off the ferry as it docks and departs. The ramp also facilitates the movement of vehicles between decks on the ferry.
