Definition of Riveting chain
The term riveting chain refers to two or more rows of rivets where the centers of the rivets in each row are aligned opposite each other. Imagine a line drawn perpendicular to the edge of a plate, passing through the center of a rivet in one row. This line will also pass through the centers of the corresponding rivets in the other rows, creating a chain-like pattern of rivets.
For example, in the construction of a ship’s hull, the riveting chain would be used to join multiple plates of metal together. By ensuring that the centers of the rivets in each row are aligned opposite each other, the shipbuilder can create a strong and stable hull, capable of withstanding the rigors of the open sea.
