Nautical Term: Screen bulkhead

Definition of Screen bulkhead

:A screen bulkhead refers to a lightweight bulkhead installed between engine and boiler rooms. Designed to serve as a barrier, the screen bulkhead effectively keeps dust and heat out of the engine room. Typically, this bulkhead is constructed around the after ends of boilers.

For instance, During a transatlantic voyage, the crew noticed an unusual amount of dust accumulating in the engine room. Upon investigation, they discovered that the screen bulkhead installed between the engine and boiler rooms had developed cracks and was no longer effectively keeping dust out of the engine room.
