Nautical Term: Secure
Definition of Secure
Securing a boat or a component of a boat refers to the action of making something fast or stable. This is usually accomplished by using ropes or lines to tie down the object or to connect it to another stable point.
For example, when securing a dinghy to the side of a larger boat, the crew would first attach a long line to a sturdy cleat on the larger boat. They would then attach the other end of the line to the dinghy, making sure it was securely fastened. Once both the dinghy and the larger boat were secured to each other, the crew could rest assured that their boats were safe and secure.
