Nautical Term: SELFD
Definition of SELFD
Self-Discharging refers to a specific behavior exhibited by some marine batteries. These batteries are capable of discharging themselves, even when not in use, due to their internal chemical reactions.
For instance, imagine a sailor who has sailed across the Pacific Ocean, and upon arriving at his destination, he finds that his boat’s marine batteries have discharged themselves, even though the boat had not been used for several days. The sailor would then need to replace the self-discharging batteries with new ones.
