Definition of Shaft alley
Shaft alleys refer to enclosed passages inside a ship where the tail shafts are located. These covered tunnels ensure the proper alignment and protection of the shafts.
For instance, during a routine engine room inspection, the chief engineer noticed a small leak emanating from one of the tail shafts in the shaft alley. Prompt action was taken to stop the leak and prevent any further damage to the ship’s engine room.
