Definition of Shole

A ‘shole’ is a small piece of wooden plank that is placed under a shoreline area where there is no solid groundway for mooring a boat. For instance, in a shallow bay with a soft mud bottom, a ‘shole’ can provide a stable and secure attachment point for a boat’s mooring lines.
