Definition of Shuttle tanker

A shuttle tanker is a medium-sized vessel specifically engineered for the repetitive, short-haul transportation of crude oil. This essential function is carried out between Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels or single point mooring buoys, and coastal refinery terminals.

For instance, a shuttle tanker may transport crude oil from an FPSO located off the coast of Nigeria to a refinery terminal situated on the coast of Texas.
