Nautical Term: Splice

Definition of Splice

Splice is a technique used to join the ends of two ropes. The process begins with the unlaying of the strands in both ropes. Following this, the strands are interweaved in a specific pattern, creating a continuous rope. For instance, when a sailor needs to lengthen a mooring line, they will splice two ropes together to create a longer, continuous line.
