Nautical Term: Trunk bulkhead

Definition of Trunk bulkhead

The trunk bulkhead is the casing or partition that creates an enclosure extending from one deck to another, encircling the hatch openings.

For instance, a cargo ship may have multiple hatches for loading and unloading goods. The trunk bulkheads surrounding these hatches ensure the compartments remain watertight, safeguarding the cargo and the vessel as a whole.
