Nautical Term: Voice tube
Definition of Voice tube
A voice tube is a specific type of tube designed to transmit the human voice from one part of a ship to another. In its most fundamental form, a voice tube system includes a speaking tube connection between the pilot house and engine room.
For instance, in a large warship, the voice tube system can become quite intricate. Voice tubes are generally constructed with a diameter of up to about four inches and are equipped with suitable speaking and listening terminals.
