Nautical Term: Draft marks

Definition of Draft marks

:Draft marks refer to numerical notations affixed on the outer side of a watercraft’s hull. These marks provide an indication of the boat’s draft or the minimum depth of water required for the vessel to navigate safely. For instance, a sailboat with draft marks reading 1.2 meters means that the boat’s keel will sit 1.2 meters or 4 feet deep in the water.
