Nautical Term: Drip pan
Definition of Drip pan
A drip pan is an open container that is placed on the deck of a ship, beneath the ends of a pipeline header. The primary function of the drip pan is to collect and retain any cargo drippage that may occur at the pipeline header.
For example, during the loading process of a ship, the cargo may be transferred from tanker trucks to the ship’s cargo tanks through pipelines. The pipelines may drip some of the cargo, and this drippage is collected and retained by the drip pan located beneath the pipeline header.
