Nautical Term: LSA

Definition of LSA

Life-Saving Appliances (LSA) refer to a range of safety equipment designed to assist persons on board a vessel in an emergency situation. These appliances may include, but are not limited to, life jackets, life rings, rescue boats, and emergency positioning beacons.

For instance, during a storm at sea, a large wave suddenly swamps the side of a vessel, submerging some of the passengers. Quick action by the crew, including the deployment of Life-Saving Appliances, such as life jackets and rescue boats, saves the lives of the endangered passengers.
