Nautical Term: SOC
Definition of SOC
A Shipper Owned Container (SOC) is a container that is owned, controlled, and managed by the shipper or the shipper’s freight forwarder. This is in contrast to a Container Freight Station (CFS) owned container, where the container is owned by the CFS operator.
For example, a retailer with large import volumes may opt to own and control its own containers. By doing so, the retailer can more effectively manage its supply chain and improve operational efficiency.
