Definition of Stringer
A stringer is a substantial beam or angle installed in various areas of a ship to provide extra structural support. The location of the stringer determines its name. For instance, stringers located in the bilge area are called bilge stringers, while those installed along the sides of the ship are known as side stringers.
For example, during the construction of a large cargo ship, the builders identified the need for additional structural support in the bilge area. To address this issue, they installed several bilge stringers made of strong, marine-grade materials. These stringers not only provided the necessary strength and stability to the ship’s hull but also ensured the safe and efficient operation of the vessel throughout its service life.
