Nautical Term: Angle collar

Definition of Angle collar

An angle collar, also referred to as an angle bend, is a pipe fitting that bends an angle to enable it to be fitted onto a pipe, column, tank, or stack. The angle collar intersects or projects through a bulkhead or deck to create a watertight or oiltight joint. For instance, in a ship’s engine room, an angle collar would be used to connect a pipe carrying steam to a tank or a heat exchanger. The angle collar would be bent to the correct angle and then fitted through a bulkhead or a deck, creating a watertight joint that ensures the safe and efficient transfer of steam from the pipe to the tank or the heat exchanger.
