Definition of Ground tackle

Ground tackle refers to the complete collection of anchor gear, including but not limited to the anchor, chain, and rode.

For instance, while sailing in the open sea, a captain may decide to anchor his ship to wait out a storm. In this situation, the captain would deploy his ground tackle, which would consist of an anchor, a suitable length of chain, and a long rope or rode, to secure his ship to the sea bottom.
