Nautical Term: Boom table

Definition of Boom table

A boom table is an essential structure used to support the heel bearings of booms on a mast. This outrigger can be attached directly to the mast or constructed as a separate structure built up around the mast from the deck.

Boom tables are vital for providing adequate working clearances when multiple booms are installed on one mast. For instance, during a sailing race, a yacht might carry several sails with different boom lengths. In such situations, a well-designed boom table becomes indispensable for ensuring that all the booms can be deployed efficiently and safely without interfering with each other or the mast.
