Nautical Term: Cable-laid

Definition of Cable-laid

Cable-laid is a term used in nautical and engineering contexts to describe the laying of submarine telecommunications cables on the seabed. The process involves carefully laying the cable on the ocean floor, often with the assistance of specialized equipment.

For example, a deep-sea cable-laying vessel might be commissioned to lay a new transatlantic telecommunications cable. The vessel would carry onboard a large spool of the new cable, which would be carefully unwound and laid on the seabed as the vessel slowly advances along its planned route.
